The 3 Key Principles Of Tennis Elbow Rehab Exercise

Are you looking for which exercises to do when you have Tennis Elbow – And which exercises are best?

You're in the right place – But let me ask you this, first: Are you sure it's the right time to begin those exercises?

Because, I have to tell you, there IS a right time and a wrong time to begin your Tennis Elbow rehab exercises!

And I'd to help you avoid the common mistake of starting them at the wrong time – Or in the wrong order, because it can make a huge difference to your healing and recovery!

So, let's talk about three key principles – that you won't likely hear anywhere else:

  • Why Tennis Elbow Rehab Exercises are NOT the top priority – in the beginning of your healing process,

  • How and why starting those Exercises right away often aggravates the injury,

  • WHAT the BEST Exercise to begin your Tennis Elbow rehab IS (when it is time to start)

  • (And why that exercise is NOT actually Wrist Extension)

So, put down those weights, bands or rubber bars for a minute – and let's reconsider this thing.

Because after 15 years of experience in treating Tennis Elbow and coaching people online, I've seen WAY too many people get these 3 things wrong…

(along with all the other treatment mistakes, like taking pills, icing, wearing a brace and getting Cortisone Shots)

Podcast: How Is Lateral Epicondylitis Treated In Physical Therapy? (Or Physiotherapy)

Physical Therapy in the Treatment of Lateral Epicondylitis

If you have Tennis Elbow and go to see your Doctor for diagnosis and treatment, it's very likely that you'll be given a prescription for Physical Therapy treatments.

But, the question is: How likely are those treatment to help you fully recover?

(Or to at least to put you well on your way to healing and recovery in a reasonable period of time.)

And what if you've already been through a series of visits and it didn't help you – What do you do NOW?

There's no doubt that Physical or 'Physiotherapy' treatments help some Tennis and Golfer's Elbow sufferers recover…

However, in my experience, working directly with hundreds of Golfer's and Tennis Elbow sufferers for about 15 years…

And from what I've gathered from talking with my Tennis Elbow Classroom program members, Physical Therapy also seems to let a lot of people down...

And in many cases, that's after dozens of visits, MONTHS of hard work and precious wasted time and energy – that's gone forever.

NOT to disparage hard-working and well-meaning Physical Therapists.

Tennis Elbow is a stubborn, difficult to treat injury – and my skepticism and criticism has to do with the overall Medical System and how it looks at and treats these kinds of injuries.

And since Physical Therapy is under the umbrella of the Allopathic Medicine and its symptom-obsessed Model, there's quite a lot to criticize. Including how that system, in a way, ties the hands of its practitioners.

So, let's begin with a look at HOW Tennis Elbow is typically treated…

This podcast episode covers:

  • How is Tennis Elbow / Lateral Epicondylitis typically treated in Physical Therapy?
  • What are the techniques or 'Modalities' often used?
  • Is anything missing from this typical treatment protocol?
  • And are there Tennis Elbow rehab exercises you can do at home?

"Rubber-Bar" Rehab: Fact Or Fad? [Podcast]

Can one type of muscle contraction (The Eccentric) be that much more effective than another when it comes to healing and rehabilitating Tennis Elbow?…

Is the eccentric approach and the "FlexBar" rubber bar device, often used to perform it, really a treatment breakthrough – Or just another gimmick?

Are Eccentrics The Best Exercises For Lateral Epicondylitis?

There’s a lot of talk lately about the benefits of ‘Eccentric Exercise’ in Tennis Elbow rehab – But can one type of muscle contraction be that much better than another?

Are Eccentric Exercises best for Lateral Epicondylitis Rehab?
Lateral Epicondylitis Rehab: Are Eccentric Exercises best?
Or is the eccentric rehab approach just another exercise fad that’s gotten a little too much hype lately?

Full story on rehab with Eccentric Exercise

(An ‘Eccentric’ contraction is simply the controlled lengthening of a muscle against resistance – Picture the lowering of a dumbbell weight in a Biceps curl, for instance.)

Based on several medical studies, there’s definitely evidence to support the idea that performing eccentric muscle contractions may (in certain cases) be superior to concentric ones when it comes to tendon rehabilitation.

This is especially true when it comes to Tendinosis, which most Tennis Elbow cases turn out to be.

A lot of the buzz seems to revolve around a single study – A small, but apparently successful study: Read the full post on Eccentric Exercise

Exercise And Tennis Elbow Rehab

There are three essential goals of exercise in Tennis Elbow rehabilitation:

  • To strengthen your muscle,
  • To encourage healing of your tendon,
  • And to strengthen that injured tendon

This video examines how exercise is meant to help achieve each of these goals – and where it sometimes falls short!
